"When we had finally decided the kids were ready for a dog, we went to the shelter as a family and looked at a lot dogs.  When they brought Herman in the room, we all agreed that he was the one for our family.  We kept the name the shelter had given him because it just fit him!  He was around 2 years old when we got him.  We ended up doing quite a bit of training.  As a hunting breed, he would go crazy trying to get to any small animals, like rabbits, squirrels and cats!  He loves the sunshine so much his nickname is the "Florida Dog".  He’s also loves cuddling with his family.  He wants covered with a blanket whenever he’s laying down.  Herman recently turned 10 and has slowed down in his old age but still loves to chase an anole or squirrel that comes in our yard!  He’s been a very special part of our family."
